Urgent Care Consults and Medical Consults
I want to do things a bit differently.... bring things perhaps a step back from all this "progress" in modern medicine. My name is Jolean Morrison, yes, after the Dolly Parton song, and I am a 2007 University Wisconsin-Madison graduate, and have been in general practice for the past 15 years, the past seven at Eugene Animal Hospital 😊. My furry family includes a 2 year old golden retriever love bucket, Manchego (Manny), an orange cling wrap tabby boy, NeeMee, an angelic calico girl, LaDee, and a stout manx scaredy cat, Miso, affectionately called "grey bear". Veterinary medicine has been a true calling for me. I enjoy developing authentic connections with my clients and their beloved pets. I continue to cross the street to pet a doggy and am always happy to talk with a fellow dog or cat lover. I feel so blessed to be able to spend my days getting doggo kisses and kitty head bumps. With an in home mobile practice, I want to be able to spend more time getting to know your pet, lessen their "white coat" anxiety, observe their behavior in their home environment, and spend time truly understanding how to help guide you and your pet. I will listen to your concerns and together we will navigate how best to care for your loved one. I will treat your pet like one of my own.
My practice is focused towards quality of life assessments, peaceful home euthanasia, and medical/second opinion consults.
What to expect during a consult:
1 full hour of my time - with 1 hour between appointments
Included in my home visits for no additional charges:
Review of previous bloodwork and x-rays
Ultrasound exam - I believe in viewing what is going on inside as part of my assessment.
Microscope analysis of lumps, skin or ear debris, urine, etc.
Diet Discussion
There is an additional charge for blood work referred to an outside lab. I can perform any necessary lab diagnostics if indicated.
You and your pet will help determine the focus of our full 1 hour appointment.
Cost structure:
The cost is limited to 1 full hour in home services with available bedside diagnostics.
$300 Medical consults
$150 Established client continuing care (I have seen your pet for this condition previously)
$300 Quality of life assessments
$300 Home euthanasia
$50 15 minute phone consults
I am not a full service hospital, and recommend Eugene Animal Hospital for cases that require hospitalization, radiographs, surgeries and dentals. I also recommend Eugene Animal Hospital for annual wellness exams and any necessary vaccines.
My medical beliefs:
There are side effects to medications, and we must you use them judiciously.
Sex hormones serve a purpose for appropriate development and may be protective against some cancers.
Food is medicine
Vaccinations induce an immune response and are protective, but over vaccination poses its own health risks.
These basic tenants have led me away from traditional veterinary "preventative medicine". I am Western medicine trained, and was certainly a product of my professional training, however, after 17 years I can now so clearly see our pets becoming sicker. I believe premature spays and neuters, overly processed diets, and over vaccinating are contributing factors. I believe all of this "prevention" has resulted in an increase in life long chronic allergies, obesity, orthopedic issues, autoimmune diseases, gastrointestinal disease, and sadly cancer. I believe we must find a balance.
I would like to add that I believe in acutely ill and emergent cases, scientific advances are life saving and I am grateful to all those pioneers that have come before me.
My goal is to help your loved one pass with dignity and grace. Saying goodbye is heartbreaking but it is an act of love to ease suffering.
There is no right way to say goodbye. I encourage you to do what feels natural. Inside quiet with candles, or outside with under a favorite tree or in the sun rays. Saying goodbye is personal for every family.
What to expect:
I will be sedating first with a pain relief/anesthetic combination. Your beloved pet will become unconscious, and reach a sleep state.
Once asleep, I will administer an overdose of anesthetic.
My goal is to make everything as smooth and peaceful as possible.
